How to Choose a Commercial Kitchen Equipment Supplier in China: 7 Checks for African Buyers

GRACE · AFRICA PROJECT BUYING GUIDE
How to Choose a Commercial Kitchen Equipment Supplier in China
7 practical checks for African buyers, with completed restaurant and resort projects in Kenya.
Discuss your kitchen project ↗
A restaurant kitchen in Nairobi and a resort kitchen in Limuru need different equipment plans. The right commercial kitchen equipment supplier in China should be able to connect your menu, kitchen layout and service requirements to a clear equipment proposal.
For African hotel owners, restaurant operators and project contractors sourcing from China, this guide explains seven checks to make before placing an order. GRACE’s completed projects at Cobblestone House, with a 107 m² kitchen, and Ridge Cabin Resort, with a 460 m² kitchen, show what useful project evidence looks like.
PROJECT EXPERIENCE
Two completed kitchens. Two different equipment plans.

NAIROBI, KENYA · RESTAURANT
Cobblestone House
107 m² kitchen
The GRACE project layout covers vegetable, meat, salad and pastry preparation, a hot kitchen, a dispatch counter, pot washing, warewashing and a coffee bar.
The project equipment list includes a gas range with oven, lava rock grill, griddle, pasta cooker, fryer and combi oven. Counter and upright chillers support preparation, while the bar and washing areas include beverage refrigeration, an ice maker, a coffee machine and a hood-type dishwasher.
What buyers can learn: a restaurant equipment proposal should cover the full route from preparation to cooking, service and dishwashing, with the bar included in the planning.

LIMURU, KENYA · RESORT
Ridge Cabin Resort
460 m² kitchen
The GRACE layout brings together receiving, storage, preparation, hot cooking, pastry work, food dispatch and washing areas. The project materials include both design drawings and photographs of the kitchen in use.
The equipment list extends from gas ranges, a combi oven and a tilting braising pan to bakery ovens, mixers, a dough sheeter and blast chilling equipment. It also covers bar refrigeration and ice production, dishwashers, and hot and refrigerated buffet units.
What buyers can learn: a resort proposal needs coordinated equipment selections across several kitchen and service areas.
YOUR SUPPLIER SHORTLIST
7 checks before you choose a supplier
01
Ask for projects that resemble your operation
Start with your business type: restaurant, resort, bakery, staff canteen or another foodservice operation. Ask each supplier for a relevant project name, location, kitchen layout, equipment list and site photographs.
For a restaurant, Cobblestone House offers a useful reference for cooking, preparation, bar and washing areas. For a hotel or resort with several service functions, Ridge Cabin Resort provides a broader comparison. Use those references to discuss which elements apply to your own project.
02
Look for planning around your floor plan
Send a dimensioned plan showing doors, columns, ceiling heights and available service connections. The proposal should show where equipment will sit and how ingredients, staff, prepared dishes and returned tableware move through the kitchen.
At Cobblestone House, the layout identifies separate preparation areas and a dispatch counter. At Ridge Cabin Resort, the plan also identifies receiving, storage and pastry areas. Ask your supplier to explain the same decisions on your own drawing.

03
Match the equipment list to your menu and service
Share your menu, expected meals per service, opening hours and busiest service period. Explain whether you need à la carte cooking, buffet service, bakery production, coffee service or a combination.
Check how the proposed cooking equipment works with refrigeration, preparation benches, food holding and dishwashing. The Cobblestone House and Ridge Cabin Resort lists illustrate how the equipment mix changes with the operation. Ask for a reason for each major selection, including its proposed capacity.
04
Confirm the equipment fits your actual site
Give the supplier the details for your specific property: electrical supply, gas type, water and drainage connections, ventilation plans, access routes and the environment where refrigeration will operate. These details should be confirmed for the destination and site.
Review the proposed specifications with your project team. Before ordering, agree on equipment dimensions, connection requirements and which site preparations your local contractors will complete.
05
Compare quotations with the same scope
Give shortlisted suppliers the same project brief and compare their proposals line by line. A useful quotation connects each item to a model, quantity, specification and kitchen zone.
Ask for clear treatment of the following items so your purchasing team can compare the complete proposal:
| Quotation item | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Equipment and fabrication | Models, quantities, dimensions, materials, accessories and any custom stainless steel work. |
| Packing and transport | Packing method, quoted delivery point, freight scope and responsibility for onward delivery. |
| Installation and handover | Site preparation, equipment connections, commissioning and any agreed training or guidance. |
| Support | Warranty terms, service contact, spare parts arrangements and technical documents. |
06
Review documentation and after-sales arrangements
Request the technical information and operating instructions for the selected equipment. Discuss warranty handling, spare parts and how your team will obtain support after delivery.
GRACE supports project procurement with CE conformity documentation for relevant equipment. Send your equipment list and destination so our team can provide the corresponding files for review.
Keep the final equipment schedule, approved specifications and agreed support terms together with your order documents.
07
Use your China visit to review a real proposal
If you are travelling to China for the Canton Fair, send your floor plan and equipment requirements before your visit. This gives the supplier a concrete brief for discussing equipment options, layout questions and the order schedule.
Bring your chef, consultant or project manager into the review where practical. Before leaving, agree on the next drawing revision, specification decisions and quotation follow-up. For help preparing your trip, read our Canton Fair kitchen equipment guide for African buyers.

BUYER QUESTIONS
Before you request a proposal
What should I send to a kitchen equipment supplier?
Send your project country and city, floor plan, kitchen type, menu, expected meals per service and target opening date. Include an equipment list and site connection details if you have them.
Can I use one existing project as my equipment list?
Use a completed project as a starting point for discussion. Your final selection should reflect your own menu, layout, service volume and site requirements. The two Kenya projects show how different those selections can be.
Can I discuss my project before visiting China?
Yes. Send your brief to GRACE’s project team in advance and request a project discussion during your trip. Include your travel dates so the team can coordinate the meeting.
